The BBC visited Balsall Common TKD club last Wednesday as part of promoting sport in the community for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games. A good turnout of students from Coventry and Balsall Common clubs, as well as friends from further afield in Stratford and Leamington ensured a good demonstration for the BBC crew.
The evening started with Mr Pearson doing a warm-up, with students demonstrating techniques doing row work. Mr Watkins II then took over the senior members, doing further row work employing various foot and hand techniques, whilst Mr Pearson continued with the junior members with a controlled demonstration of free-sparring. Fixed sparring and then patterns were then the order of the day, showcasing patterns from Chon-Ji at beginner level, up to 1st degree black belt patterns. A group photo was then taken before further demonstrations of the power of taekwondo techniques -first with pad work showing various kicks and hand techniques, and then with adult black belt members demonstrating breaking using foot and hand techniques.
Photo's of the evening can be found on our Gallery pages...
A great evening was had by all and Coventry and Balsall Common TKD clubs would like to extend their appreciation to club members and especially people who came from further afield to support. We would also like to thank the BBC. We are told a short film of the evening will be appearing at Coventry Transport Museum -look out for it!
